USGSExternal icon USGS Site (External icon Duck Duck Go Maps)Poor - River is too low to float comfortably. Most or all riffles will drag or must be portaged and some obstacles (such as slick shelf rock) cause undue problems. Avoid the river at this stage for casual paddling trips.Poor(none)16

The current was pretty brisk and it took considerable effort to make it above the last riffle before the pool. Caught almost 30 fish in less than two hours and brought home a nice stringer of females. The lake level was about three feet high, so the water clarity was pretty murky with less than a foot of visibility.Paddled upstream from the Rt EE Bridge about a mile or so and found a really nice looking hole to fish for some white bass. Paddled upriver from the EE (Hulston Mill) Bridge to the three islands and back to try to find some white bass for the last time this spring. River was about 730 CFS and the lake was at 870 feet (+3 of normal) so many of the shoals that we fished two weeks prior were gone since the lake had risen five feet in the past week. Nevertheless, we picked up a few decent-sized males and I caught one large "sal" that was 15.5 inches up at the islands. I probably caught over 40 fish in total, but a majority of them were small and not worth the fillet knife. With the lake high, motor boats could get up further into the river, so we had to have our heads on a swivel to get out of the way.Paddled upriver from the EE (Hulston Mill) Bridge to the three islands and back to try to find some white bass for the last time this spring. Paddled upstream and downstream from the EE Bridge (Hulston Mill) access to try and find some white bass. We caught a plethora of average-sized males up in the river in small pockets adjacent to the main current on swimmin' minnows. Back towards the lake, we caught a few more white bass, but overall lacked any quality fish the whole day when it came to size. Lake level was about 865ft (2ft low), so that could be hampering the big sals from getting up into the moving water in places. Weather was clear skies, 75 degrees, and light wind (relative for fishing Stockton). Water temperature was about 59 degrees in the afternoon. Hopefully, some good spring rains come in the next week or so to get one last push of fish into the river to target.Paddled upstream and downstream from the EE Bridge (Hulston Mill) access to try and find some white bass.
