We arrived at Akers with the intention of camping there and shuttling and floating the next day. We met up with someone at the canoe rental who agreed to shuttle that night so we could get started. It was nearly dark when we pushed off so we stopped at the first available gravel bar to camp. Raccoons raided one of our dry bags for food that night, ripping a hole in the side and eating all of our English muffins and some other miscellaneous things.We arrived at Akers with the intention of camping there and shuttling and floating the next day. This was a perfect day to be on the river. We didn't see anyone else until nearly noon. We made great progress during the day as the current was moving steadily. Fishing was nearly non-existent. We did visit the main features including Cave Spring, Rockhouse Cave, Pulltite, and the smaller springs nearby.This was a perfect day to be on the river. We didn't see anyone else until nearly noon. We arrived at Cedargrove a little before 1600 hours and unloaded our boats and equipment. Renee stayed with the boats while we shuttled to Pulltite. Tom and Renee pushed off around 1730 hours to find a camp site. Stephanie and I pushed off around 1830 hours. Dinner was a sausage, pepper, and rice casserole from Renee along with mango / avocado salsa and chocolate for dessert. The night was crystal clear and we saw a bright shooting star while sitting around the campfire. We slept outside and the dew was heavy, making everything very wet. Fortunately, the sun was bright and warm first thing in the morning, drying everything quickly. The gear in the boat was heavy but sufficient for an overnight trip. We did have some challenges sleeping together with two separate sleeping pads. We broke camp late and spent a great deal of time lounging on gravel bars, including a delightful tea time setup at the mouth of Sinking Creek. Here, water in the creek was warmer than the river water which was an interesting flip about the usual nature of things. We lost track of Tom and Renee just downstream from Akers and paddled through the early evening to find them setup at Cave Spring. This night, we setup our tents to ward off the dew. The night and next morning were somewhat overcast and cool. We put in at the landing, a small road down to the river pretty far south of the spring and hospital ruins. This section was nice and flowing quickly.
