We had originally talked about going to the Jacks Fork, which was unseasonably suitable for a trip, but the girls wanted to go and didn't want to go that far. The river wasn't too busy at first but became a zoo later in the afternoon. Water levels were very good with bumps in only a few spots and portages only necessary when a riffle was misread. We stopped for a long lunch at the confluence of the Finely River. Lunch was sushi, rivercado, cheese curds, deer sausage, chips, peanuts, mangos, with cheesecake for dessert. We got on the river around 1130 and pulled out around 1700. USGS Gauge Data:Boaz (07052250) Discharge: 215 Height: 2.87 Source: Edmond |

GSF LMB RB SMB Barton, Adam Greenstreet, Michael Greenstreet, Miles Law, Kyle Michael's Bachelor Party Fishing Trip was a fun day on the water. There is a large tree that is across the river just downstream from the Dry Knob Access, which is difficult to navigate, regardless of water level. The fishing was a little slow, with my 16.5" smallie being the largest one caught that day. We had the water to ourselves all day and were off the river by 1730. Edmond, Brian Edmond, Julian Evans, Adam Mohr, Kelly Romano, Ben Romano, David Romano, Hannah Romano, Lucy Sherman, Bev Sherman, Paul Van Someren, Tom This trip was a celebration of the legal victory that kept the Canyon Road access at Linden on the Finley River open to the public. The water was on the "good" end of "low" (or the "low" end of "good"). Several of the riffles were draggy, some portages were required, and the current was very slow. Tom and I discussed this and rated it as a "low" for these purposes. Since we started around 1430 hours (and off around 1900 hours), there was no organized lunch. Everyone shared some food, however, The weather didn't turn out as hot as predicted and the water itself was cool and refreshing. GSF KSB LMB LSF RB SMB Barton, Adam Barton, Scott On the river at 0800 and off at 1730 with sunny skies and a high of 88 degrees. The cost to put in at Brownbranch is about $10, so budget accordingly. The water level was ideal for fishing and floating. There was a slight stain to the water, which was in part to the creek still coming down from a flood the week prior. A few new trees were down in the water from the recent flood, which made a few technical spots to paddle through. Also, if the water level is any lower than this, there are many riffles that would need to be waded, with slick rocks as a hazard. The final riffle into Bradleyville is a real doozy, so be careful when making that last descent. Most fish were caught using finesse patterns, targeting structure found in the deeper and shaded areas of the creek channel. We caught mostly 10"-12" smallies with a few over 14" and lots of Ozark bass. Overall between Dad and myself, we caught over 100 fish on the day. One of the best fishing floats in Ozarks. None Edmond, Brian Edmond, Julian We decided to put in above Rt O and found a fantastic place with easy access and plenty of parking. At this water level, it took only 30 minutes to get to Rt O. We dubbed this stretch "Seven Bridges (River) Road" as you encounter seven bridges on this stretch if you count the access points (all of which we paddled under except the first one). This is a "wild" river with no regular maintenance and we saw nobody else on the river with boats, our only human contact being a few tractors, some farmers cleaning up flood damage from last week and, of course, cars traversing some of the seven bridges. There are several whitewater-y drops on this stretch but the most exciting are below Flint Hill Branch, FR 44, and Rt BB. This is probably close to the minimum water level it would take to fully enjoy these as we bumped the bottom in a few places. The water was clear despite the recent flooding. This stretch was pretty technical with several tricky runs and some places where we had to navigate downed trees. Still, we had to get out of our kayaks in only two places, once because of a downed tree we had to scramble over and again at a tricky bend that would have dumped us both. Julian did a fantastic job of navigating several tricky spots with very little guidance. During this trip, we saw two White-tailed Deer, a half dozen Bald Eagles (or the same one staying just ahead of us), at least two pair of Wood Ducks, and countless Great Blue Herons. Turtles, frogs, and snakes were scarce but we saw a few. The find of the trip was four bovine skulls lashed together with a rope. We brought them home, of course, as one does. We started at 1000 hours and finished at 1600 hours with two stops, maybe 15 minutes each. Except for three long, slow pools, the water was moving for most of this stretch. Julian hit 500 river miles on this trip! USGS Gauge Data:Morrisville (06918740) Discharge: 687 Height: 3.92 Source: Edmond |

It was exciting and would have been difficult, perhaps even dangerous, to do without an experienced guide. Emily and Daniel did an amazing job. Emily was training Daniel (her son) and knew every riffle and rock in the channel and knew exactly where to send us. We paddled on their command, leaned in, locked in, and rested during still waters. This was a fantastic trip that we all enjoyed. We got on the river about 1100 hours and were finished by about 1215 hours. None Acharya, Sree Arnold, Al Eth, Joe Turk, Scott Van Someren, Tom Al organized this mid-week trip in an effort to get as many of our old MIS floating group out on the river, but also trying to avoid the Party-River congestion that occurs (especially on the Niangua) during the summer. Pushing off from the takeout at 830 hours we hoped to avoid most of the boneheads. We were successful for the most part, but there were still plenty of people making use of the beautiful day. One woman in particular, though, seemed to think everyone wanted to hear her music played as loudly as possible. Other than this inconsiderate nitwit, it was a great float with easy-going people and near perfect conditions. USGS Gauge Data:Windyville (06923250) Discharge: 1540 Height: 4.40 Source: Van Someren |

There were several difficult areas that turned out to be fairly technical. I was informed that this was not an easy river (like the others) and it wasn't as much fun as a "leisurely" float.
