| Condition | Good - Conditions are ideal for a canoe or kayak. Boats typically will drag on fewer than one-quarter of riffles, if at all, and portages are unnecessary or rare. Normal float lengths can be attempted without a problem. |
 Notes | We packed up camp and left the gravel bar shortly before 1000 hours after a breakfast of sausage / egg / cheese English muffin sandwiches and chocolate chip muffins. We were running low on water so I thawed the frozen water bottles I had in the cooler. It worked fine since we had eaten most of the food that needed refrigeration and the freezer packs were holding out. The river water had cleared considerably but was still flowing well. Because the river ended up in several braided channels, we did have some difficulty with dragging at riffles in a few places. There were also some dangerous areas, including a riffle that would have been impossible to navigate successfully in even a kayak. We avoided these and nobody tipped over although I scraped past a root wad and ended up with a minor contusion on the top of my head and lost my paddle in the process. Luckily, Alex retrieved it for me. We stopped in a few places to get out and explore and swim. We were at the takeout by 1300 hours. Since everyone had to fit in the car, we packed the gear in an upright canoe and repacked at the put-in to have a good trip home. We arrived at home by 1700 hours after a stop at Andy's on South Campbell. |
