Start | Prongs |
End | VFW Campground (Above / upstream) |
Distance | 4.3 miles |
Crew | Bartlett, Stephanie Edmond, Brian Van Someren, Tom |
Condition | Good - Conditions are ideal for a canoe or kayak. Boats typically will drag on fewer than one-quarter of riffles, if at all, and portages are unnecessary or rare. Normal float lengths can be attempted without a problem. |
Notes | The water level on this stretch was just barely good enough for a "Good" rating. I wouldn't want to float it any lower. This section of the river wasn't particularly scenic (compared to further downstream). Our time on the river this day was basically a gorgeous evening float. There were several good camping sites before we settled on the gravel bar we finally chose. We also met a fellow wilderness paddler, Earl Lipscomb, who hailed from Carthage but was a Glendale alum just a few years older than Tom. They compared notes and acquaintances. Earl tries to float the Jacks Fork at least once per year and has very detailed notes about camp sites and fishing holes for this river and others. |
