LSF RT SMB Acharya, Sree Jackson, Amy Larsen, Chris Larsen, Lisa Martin, Galen Provance, Doug Turk, Scott Van Someren, Andrea Van Someren, Tom Wilson, Ryan This little creek is the perfect stream (IMHO). Small, compact, cozy, canopied with trees leaning in over much of the water, with tons of twists and turns around many bends in the river (especially so in the section above Swinging Bridge). We caught the water level at a point just before it may have been too low, but it still turned out to be an excellent outing with perfect weather. Fishing was actually poor for everyone accept Galen, who managed to catch an elusive McCloud Trout (approx. 4-5 lbs). The airspace at Oto Road bridge looked to be about 15-16". BLG GSF SMB Van Someren, Andrea Van Someren, Tom Andrea and I took advantage of a hot 90 degree day to spontaneously fish the long slow pool upstream of Otto Road, plus cool off swimming in the clear stream. Interestingly, when we were loading our kayaks back on the car, Ryan Wilson, Korey Haun, and Cody Denson paddled down the stream to finish their day on the river, having put in at Swinging Bridge Road. None Van Someren, Tom Williams, Sarah Wilson, Ryan Wilson, Shiree Put in just before 1000, took out at Cox Access in Galena right at 1730. Water level was good on Crane Creek with no obstructions blocking the last two miles of it before joining the James. The James, too, was flowing very nicely. Fishing utterly sucked, mostly due to WAAAAAY too many people also taking advantage of the gorgeous day outside. No USGS gauge for this river and date Source: Van Someren |

None Coroleuski, Linda Edmond, Brian Eth, Joe Van Someren, Tom Wilson, Ryan The water level was at the very cusp of being too low to float. This stretch was very technical, with several downed trees, narrow water, and difficult places to maneuver, even with a kayak. It is not recommended for a canoe or for inexperienced paddlers without the expectation of a lot of portages and upsets. The locals here mentioned Spring Creek (a tributary of Crane Creek) as being a good float with high water. No USGS gauge for this river and date Source: Edmond |

CCF RB RT SMB Van Someren, Tom Paddled upstream 1.75 miles to fish and examine how many river obstructions needed work to clear a navigable path along this section. Photos included in this report show where they are along with each obstruction. For the water level being as low as it was, it wasn't as terrible (LOL) as I thought it might be paddling around.
Returning back to the car I got caught in a steadily increasing thunderstorm. Adding insult to injury the seat adjustment mechanism on my kayak also broke. Rrrrrrr!!! No USGS gauge for this river and date Source: Van Someren |
