Was crowded with a couple bus loads and several groups of multiple kayak fisherman. I hope they had as good a luck as we did. A few snags to watch for, but overall, really a nice trip. We use the Bardley-Greer gauge data to get an estimate of what the Cane Bluff flow is. Great day. Bob did a bit of fishing and caught a few. Fun float with a few technical corners. Some debris from recent flooding - larger trees/limbs below surface, easy to avoid but be aware. Fantastic float and will definitely be doing this again!!! The stretch from Long Hollow to Greer Spring was slow but not low. We were able to get through each riffle without getting out although there was some dragging. Past Greer Spring, the water was swifter with less dragging. We originally planned to start at MO 19 but decided we wanted to see the confluence of the spring and the river. Because of that, our late start, and the long shuttle, we had more river miles to cover on the first day than we had planned. We were also in competition with other groups for the sparse camp sites. We were pestered by motor boats today (as we were yesterday). Tom and I saw a family of at least three otters about halfway through this stretch. The section above Greer Spring was a little low and we dragged or bumped through most of the riffles (a few had enough to carry us without bumping the bottom). After the spring, the river was swifter and high enough to carry us easily through the remainder of the trip. Nobody else was on the river above MO 19, and only a few people were encountered after that point. We started around 0930 hours and finished at 1640 hours. River was just high enough to enable a kayak/canoe to navigate almost every riffle without hitting rocks. The float took us about 5.5 hours with a few stops. Water is pretty chilly though if you are a swimmer. The "good" rating goes down to 300 cfs. It may be a challenge to pick your way through the riffles with only 300 cfs. Expect to hit a some rocks and maybe get hung up in a few. Halls Bay Chute makes for a fun little drop a couple of miles from the end. Rained pretty hard just as we were taking out.
